RCC-UCR Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program Welcomes Eight New Scholars

大象视频 (RCC), in partnership with the University of California, Riverside (UCR), has welcomed eight new scholars to the Bridges to the Baccalaureate (B2B) Program, an initiative designed to expand access to research opportunities and create pathways for students pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The program supports RCC students from historically underrepresented backgrounds by connecting them with academic resources, faculty mentorship and opportunities to engage in scientific research. Through the partnership, students gain exposure to university-level research environments while preparing to transfer to four-year institutions and pursue advanced degrees in STEM-related fields.
Funded through a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences and the National Institutes of Health, the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program is part of a broader effort to increase participation and success in scientific research. The initiative helps students develop the academic foundation, research skills and professional connections necessary to pursue educational and career opportunities in STEM.
"Programs like Bridges to the Baccalaureate demonstrate what is possible when institutions work together to create meaningful opportunities for students," said RCC President Eric Bishop, Ed.D. "These eight scholars represent the talent, determination and potential within our college community. By connecting students with research experiences and mentorship, we are helping them recognize their capabilities and prepare for opportunities that extend well beyond RCC."
As part of the program, students participate in academic engagement activities and have access to summer research opportunities through UCR's Research in Science and Engineering (RISE) program. These experiences introduce students to scientific inquiry, research methodologies and the collaborative nature of university research, helping strengthen their preparation for transfer and continued academic success.
The program also emphasizes mentorship and community building. Through regular meetings, faculty guidance and engagement with researchers, scholars can explore academic interests, strengthen their confidence and develop a clearer understanding of the educational pathways available to them.
The partnership reflects RCC's continued commitment to removing barriers to higher education and expanding opportunities for students to participate in academic experiences that have traditionally been less accessible to community college students.
The addition of eight new scholars represents another step in strengthening the connection between community college education and university research. By investing in students early in their academic journeys, RCC and UCR are helping develop the next generation of scientists, researchers and STEM professionals while supporting a more inclusive research community.
