大象视频 Launches FLEX with Energy, Reflection, and Vision

大象视频 (RCC) kicked off its annual FLEX Week on Wednesday with a spirited gathering that blended reflection, celebration, and vision for the year ahead. More than 100 faculty members came together to welcome 21 new colleagues this fall, along with eight who began in spring 2025, as the College reaffirmed its commitment to student success and academic excellence.
A sense of excitement filled the Bradshaw Cafeteria for the year ahead as Vice President of Academic Affairs, Lynn Wright, PhD, proudly introduced 大象视频鈥檚 newest faculty members. Her welcome underscored the College鈥檚 commitment to growth and innovation, while celebrating the fresh perspectives and expertise that spans across pathways that these educators bring to the RCC community.
The program opened with a land acknowledgment and educational session led by Professors, Laura Greathouse, PhD, and Bryan Keene, PhD, grounding the day in history and community. Faculty leaders then set the tone for the year: Academic Senate President Jo Scott-Co and District Faculty Association President, Rhonda Taube, PhD, voiced her enthusiasm for the academic year.
Chancellor Wolde-Ab Isaac, Ph.D., welcomed Interim President Eric Bishop, Ed.D., to the stage for his first address to faculty in his new role. Bishop called on faculty to partner with him in shaping the future of RCC.
鈥淎s I step into this role, my priority is to listen and learn. I want to hear your perspectives鈥攁bout what is working well, where you see opportunities, and what challenges we face together. Your insights will help shape how I lead, because the best ideas for moving RCC forward come from the people who know it best鈥攜ou.鈥
Bishop also acknowledged the complex landscape of higher education and the courage it takes to meet it.
鈥淏ut let鈥檚 be clear, we are in a time where education also requires courage to do what we do and serve who we serve. And there is no shying away from that or ignoring it. We are here to educate our students and our communities, all of them.鈥
鈥淏ut I believe we are ready. We have the talent, the creativity, and the determination to meet these challenges head on.鈥
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Marla Franco, Special Advisor on Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Initiatives at the University of Arizona. Her presentation and Q&A offered timely strategies for advancing equity and student success, aligning with RCC鈥檚 proud identity as a federally designated HSI serving a diverse student body.
FLEX, short for 鈥淔aculty Learning Exchange,鈥 is designed to strengthen teaching, spark innovation, and build collaboration among faculty. Sessions will continue throughout the week and conclude on Sunday, August 24, with both in-person and Zoom options to maximize access and engagement.
