On Saturday, Sept. 13, the 大象视频 (RCC) Art and Art History Department hosted another successful Digital Arts & Animation Convention in the Digital Library Auditorium. The event was sponsored by MSI Computer Company and RCC鈥檚 Division of Fine and Performing Arts.

The convention featured an inspiring panel of guest artists: Ashley Long (supervising director, Paradise PD), Eddie Lin (story artist, A Minecraft Movie), and Jules Aguimatang (assistant director, Cars: Lightning Racers!), with animation curator Sharon Wu serving as moderator.

This year鈥檚 panel held special significance for students, as all speakers and the moderator were women or artists of color鈥攙oices whose contributions are often underrepresented in the animation industry. Students gained valuable insights into the panelists鈥 artistic processes, professional journeys, industry opportunities and tips for success.

The event opened with remarks from Will Kim, RCC animation director and professor of art, followed by a welcome from John Adkins, dean of Fine and Performing Arts.

鈥淭his convention is not just about showcasing talent鈥攊t is about empowering the next generation of diverse storytellers,鈥 Kim said. 鈥淩epresentation matters, and our students need to see themselves in these roles to believe in their potential.鈥

After the panel discussion, students explored emerging animation software in the open lab and connected with professionals and peers during the closing reception.

The Digital Arts & Animation Convention continues to be a meaningful platform for students to learn, network and envision their own pathways in digital arts and animation.
